Athletics, or Track & Field as it is known in the USA, is one of the most popular sports within the college system. The first meet between colleges was held in 1874, meaning it is also one of the oldest sports played at the college level. With over 2,200 university athletics teams, American universities and colleges have an abundance of spots to fill, and look all over the world to find the best talent to build their teams.
The college Track & Field system has produced some of the greatest and most famous athletes of all time, like Florence Griffiths-Joyner, Steve Prefontaine, Allyson Felix, and Jesse Owens.
As one of the most popular sports worldwide, the opportunity to compete at the highest level in Track & Field is one that you should be extremely excited about. Legendary programs like Oregon University and USC have launched the careers of the world’s most accomplished athletes, and you could be next on the list!
College athletics is competed at a large variety of levels, with national championships being held for all three NCAA divisions, the NAIA, and two divisions in the NJCAA. This means that there is space for many athletes across a range of abilities. There are both Indoor and Outdoor events, meaning the season for Athletics can be almost year-round, with Indoor events being played in winter.
